DIY Wedding & Portrait Backdrop

July 30, 2018

Hi Friends! Happy Monday! The Southern Grace Fam has been busy preparing for Kindergarten, sleep training a 9 month old (can you believe it?) and getting excited for this falls wedding season.  Friday I posted our feature for this dreamy Farm Fresh inspired shoot and our love for hand painted backdrops! Here is how we made it

First I ordered a blank canvas backdrop from Drop it Modern

You can however cut cost simply by purchasing white canvas material and sewing a pole hole at the top and bottom

Full Disclosure- My mother in law is an incredible painter. She is a professional artist and faux painter and created this backdrop with me- and if you want to skip the DIY- she is starting up shop to create these custom backdrops specific to your vision

Ok..now on to the fun part- we laid out the canvas, grabbed the plate of Acrylic paint filled it with varying shades of blue, grey, cream and peach

We then started at the top – dabbing lightly with the peaches and creams and progressively working darker as we got lower working to blend the colors as we go

A clean cotton cloth with water was essential for blending the colors together as well

You can make a backdrop stand at a fraction of the cost to rent- any hardware store should be able to cut pipes to your dimensions and thread it to elbow joints

Then we simply spray painted the pipes rose gold for a prettier copper pipe look
